160-Acre Wildfire In Gloucester County Contained, Authorities Say

New Jersey fire officials said the fire was reported Saturday morning in West Deptford.

WEST DEPTFORD, NJ — A wildfire in Gloucester County that quickly grew to 160 acres on Saturday has been contained, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service said.

The fire was first reported Saturday morning in the 8th Street area in West Deptford, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.

Firefighters had the blaze 70 percent contained around 2 p.m. and by the forest fire service's 6 p.m. update it was 100 percent contained, officials said.

The forest fire service used engines and ground crews, as well as a plane capable of dropping 600 gallons of water to contain the fire.

Red Bank Avenue, which had been closed from Hessian Avenue to the Delaware River, has been reopened, the forest fire service said.

There had been 60 structures threatened but with the containment they were no longer at risk, forest fire service officials said.

"Forest Fire Service crews will remain on scene for the next several hours to continue to improve containment lines and address areas of concern until significant precipitation occurs to ensure public safety," the service said. "Smoke is expected to remain present until significant rain falls over the fire area."
