The mall is scheduled to open at 6 p.m. Employees have started a change.org petition in opposition.

Thanksgiving is coming and the newest Thanksgiving tradition has become to wolf down the turkey and all the fixins’ as fast as possible to make time to get to the mall.
Some people do it.
Not everyone.

And not everyone likes it, including some mall employees in South Jersey.
Employees at the Deptford Mall have started a change.org petition titled “Do Not Open Deptford Mall on Thanksgiving Day.”

The Deptford Mall is scheduled to open at 6 p.m. Thanksgiving night. The response on the petition reads as follows:
“This is ridiculous! It is taking people away from a holiday that is based around spending time with friends & family. The only days off retailers get during the year are Christmas Day, Thanksgiving Day & Easter; we would like to enjoy the same benefits non-retailers get. This year will be the first year Deptford Mall has decided to open at such an early time. If the mall is opening at 6pm that means management will be required to get here even earlier.”
Laura Smith started the petition, which had collected over 500 signatures by Thursday morning.
