Deptford Man Pleads Guilty in 2-State Bank Robbery Spree

He admitted to robbing five banks in New Jersey and one in Pennsylvania in 2015.

A Deptford man has admitted to robbing five New Jersey banks and one Pennsylvania bank between June of 2015 and September of 2015, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman said on Wednesday.

Michael A. Fanelli, a/k/a Michael Carducci, 36, pleaded guilty to an information charging him with six counts of bank robbery.

Fanelli typically robbed each bank by approaching a teller, displaying what appeared to be a firearm, and demanding money, according to documents filed in the case and statements made in court.

He admitted to robbing the Cornerstone Bank in West Deptford on June 2, 2015; Fulton Bank in Mullica Hill three days later; Malvern Federal Savings Bank in Concordville, PA., on July 22, 2015; the same Susquehanna Bank in Mullica Hill on July 28 and Aug. 21, 2015; and National Penn Bank in Florence on Sept. 24, 2015.

Following that last robbery, police officers followed Fanelli to his home and arrested him.

Each bank robbery count carries a maximum potential penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is set for June 17.
