Family In Mourning After Man Killed In West Deptford Hit-And-Run

Mark Breslin's family launched an online fundraiser to help pay for funeral costs as police continue to search for the driver.

WEST DEPTFORD, NJ — A family is in mourning after a Gloucester City man was killed in a hit-and-run accident in West Deptford last week, and police were still searching for the person who struck him Tuesday morning.

Mark Breslin, 37 of Gloucester City, was struck and killed while walking south on Route 45 on Thursday night, West Deptford police said on Monday.

“I keep thinking it’s a dream like it didn’t happen,” Breslin’s mother, Marie Breslin, told CBS 3. “It’s very heartbreaking.”

He was struck by a late model white Ford Explorer at the intersection of Route 45 and Hessian Avenue just after 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 19, according to the West Deptford Police Department. The car then sped from the scene south on Route 45, police said.

Mark Breslin, who works as an electrician, left behind a young son and a daughter, according to CBS 3. His wife has started an online fundraiser to help pay for funeral costs.

“The family is in need of help to raise money for Mark Breslin’s funeral,” Theresa Maria Breslin wrote in the online fundraiser that had raised nearly $1,000 as of Tuesday morning.

The family hopes to raise $1,500 to cover the cost of Breslin’s cremation. They are also working on putting a viewing together and are seeking pictures of Breslin. To donate to the fundraiser, visit the “For Mark’s Funeral Costs” Facebook page.
