Gloucester County COVID Vaccine 'Megasite' To Launch Friday

Due to a limited number of doses, the vaccine will be given internally at first. No registrations are being taken, officials said.

GLOUCESTER COUNTY, NJ — One of the three coronavirus vaccine “megasites” slated to open in South Jersey this month will open on Friday, officials said this week.

However, with a limited number of vaccinations available, the site at Rowan College of South Jersey has not yet opened registration to the public.

“With the limited vaccinations we have received, we are vaccinating internal individuals who meet the Phase 1A criteria,” Gloucester County officials said in a statement. “During our limited testing phase, we are perfecting logistics and registration systems to ensure a safe and seamless vaccination experience. There is no open registration at this time.”

  • Healthcare personnel: paid and unpaid persons serving in health care settings who have the potential for direct or indirect exposure to patients or infectious materials; and
  • Long-term care residents: adults who reside in facilities that provide a range of services, including medical and personal care, to persons who are unable to live independently.

Gov. Phil Murphy announced last month that New Jersey plans to open six vaccine "megasites" in January in its effort to provide COVID-19 vaccinations to residents who want them, starting with the state's health care workers and first responders.

The Rowan College at South Jersey is located at 1400 Tanyard Road in Sewell, Gloucester County. New Jersey Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli said during a news conference this week that it and a “megasite” at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall in Morris County will open on Friday.

Other South Jersey “megasites” will be at the Moorestown Mall, 400 Route 38 in Moorestown, Burlington County; and the Atlantic City Convention Center, 1 Convention Boulevard in Atlantic City, Atlantic County. A start date for those sites have not yet been announced publicly.

Here are the locations of the other "megasites":

  • Bergen County: Meadowlands
  • Middlesex County: New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center
