Glouco Offers Produce Vouchers for Seniors

The vouchers can be used to buy produce at local farmers markets.

Gloucester County will offer $20 in vouchers to eligible senior citizens to buy fresh produce at designated local farmers markets.

“We live in the heart of a fruit and vegetable producing region and this program offers our seniors access to the fresh fruits and vegetables that are grown right here,” said county Freeholder Director Damminger. “Each year more farmers accept the vouchers from this federally funded program at their stands and stores and we are grateful for their participation."

The county will distribute 3,000 vouchers to help seniors buy produce from local farms, said Deputy Freeholder Director Warren S. Wallace, the liaison to the County’s Department of Health and Senior Services.

Through the federally funded program, eligible seniors will receive four $5 vouchers this year.

Seniors must be 60 years of age or older and have an annual income of less than $20,147 for one and less than $27,214 for two. Seniors must show proof income (2010 Income Tax, Social Security statement and Pension or Medicaid card).

Vouchers can be used July 1 through Nov. 30. Vouchers are accepted at participating farmer's markets (each senior will receive a list of participating farmers.)
