Hit-And-Run Victim Airlifted In South Jersey: Police
The pedestrian was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and then flown to a trauma center for advanced treatment, police said.
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ — A pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries early Sunday in a hit-and-run under investigation in Gloucester County, authorities said.
Washington Township police were dispatched to Route 42 (Black Horse Pike) just after 4:30 a.m.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle was driving southbound on Route 42 and struck a pedestrian while approaching Whitman Drive, police said. The person had been walking southbound along the shoulder of the roadway.

The driver fled the scene, police said.
The pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries. They were brought to Jefferson Washington Township Hospital and later flown to Cooper University Hospital Trauma Center in Camden for advanced treatment.

The striking vehicle was a 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class (G-Wagon). Investigators later identified the driver by using license-plate readers to obtain their vehicle registration. But police have not revealed the driver's identity or announced any charges as of this writing.
Route 42 was closed between Greentree Road and Whitman Drive for about two hours after the crash.
