Jamil Pollard Re-Commits to Penn State

The senior West Deptford lineman gave his verbal commitment to the Nittany Lions Thursday night.

Jamil Pollard is back in the fold at Penn State.

After having his scholarship offer pulled six months ago over academic concerns, the senior lineman and four-star recruit re-committed verbally to the Nittany Lions, who offered that scholarship back to him last month, at the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl in Dallas Thursday night. In doing so, he also became the first commitment to the school since news of the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal broke in November.

Pollard, a 6-4, 270-pound offensive and defensive lineman, chose Penn State over Boston College, where he visited just after the Eagles beat Haddonfield for the Group 2 title earlier this month, and told Lions247.com that, despite the scholarship drop, he never waivered from wanting to go to Happy Valley.

“The program is still a good program,” Pollard told the site. “The coaching staff made it better, but it did not stop Penn State from being Penn State.”

Pollard left the door open to a switch to Boston College, though, despite the verbal commitment.

"I think I might take one more visit, but that's just for sure so I know what I want at Penn State," he said to Lions247. "I just hope the coaching staff that they bring in is a good one."

The earliest Pollard can sign is five weeks from now, on National Signing Day on Feb. 1.
