Katie Dunn Honored as RCGC's Female Athlete of the Year

The RCGC basketball star was honored as the Roadrunner Women of the Year by the NJ Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women.

Rowan College at Gloucester County (RCGC) women’s basketball star Katie Dunn, of Audubon, was honored Tuesday evening, Feb. 13, as Roadrunner Woman of the Year by the New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women. The award, based on athletic excellence, academic success and community service, is presented to one outstanding athlete from each college and university in the state.

Dunn helped the women’s basketball team to a 19–3 overall record this winter. She also participates on the women's track team and assisted the Roadrunners to a fourth-place finish in the National Championship meet last spring, in addition to running cross country in the fall.

In January, Dunn was chosen as the RCGC representative for the 26th Annual New Jersey National Association for Girls and Women in Sports Day event held at Seton Hall University.

Outside of academics and athletics, Dunn serves as secretary for the Unified Sports program at the College. This program is comprised of local young adults with special needs and sponsored by the Special Olympics. Every week Dunn leads and participates alongside these athletes while helping them to develop multiple athletic skills in a fun and judgement-free environment.

Upon graduating from RCGC with an associate degree in Education, Dunn plans to transfer to Rowan University to pursue a bachelor’s degree, in addition to hitting the courts for the women’s varsity basketball team.
