Local Boy Scouts Attend National Jamboree in West Virginia

West Deptford, NJ – Imagine, rock climbing, zip-lines, camping all in one place. Well that is what some Boy Scouts from Troop 9 in West Deptford are experiencing at the National Boy Scout Jamboree in West Virginia this week.

The weeklong event is held every four years and this year, for the first time, it is being held at The Summit Bechtel Reserve. The first Jamboree was held in 1937 and it was located in Washington, DC.

According to the Jamboree’s website, the site is a 10,000 acres that is located in the West Virginia mountains. Scouts will be able to take part in activities such as Rock Climbing, Zip-Lines, Scuba Diving, and Skateboarding. The site also features 13 acres designated for sport shooting, whitewater rafting, rock climbing, and more. So don’t worry, you won’t be bored.

Herb Dodds, a long time member of BSA Troop 9, said, “The Jamboree is an amazing experience for anyone involved in Scouting. There is plenty to see and do. I have met and traded patches with scouts from all over the world.”

Scouts and Visitors can also download an application for their phone that will give them updated information about events, as well as location’s of different activities.

So whether you are a Scout, Adventurer, or Visitor, you will find plenty of things to do during this weeklong event. However, if you think you can go any year, think again, remember it is only held every four years.
