Man Kills Woman, Shoots Child, Calls 911 On Himself In South Jersey Home: Prosecutor

He told police he intentionally shot the woman and then shot the second victim after getting startled, authorities said.

PAULSBORO, NJ — A Gloucester County man killed a woman, shot a child, and then called 911 on himself on Saturday, authorities said.

Ramon Luis Acevedo shot a woman in the head Saturday morning inside a home on Paulsboro's Elizabeth Avenue, authorities said. Acevedo then shot a minor, who fled the home, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office.

Police found the woman dead inside a bedroom. Authorities didn't immediately share her name or her relationship to the suspect.

The child began medical treatment for a gunshot wound on Saturday.

Acevedo, 40, called 911 and told police he intentionally shot the woman, got startled while holding his handgun and accidentally shot the second victim, prosecutors said.

The Paulsboro man was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree aggravated assault and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

He is detained in the Salem County Correctional Facility, which provides jailing services for Gloucester County.

Attorney information for Acevedo wasn't immediately available in online court records.
