Man Intentionally Set NJ Motel Fire, Damaging Multiple Rooms: Police

Several tenants were displaced because of the damage, authorities said.

LANDISVILLE, NJ — A man deliberately set a fire inside a South Jersey motel that displaced several people on Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Shawn Negron intentionally set a mattress ablaze inside his room at the Budget Motel in Landisville, police said. Negron, who lives in the motel, fled the area, according to law enforcement.

No injuries were reported. But the fire damaged multiple rooms and displaced several motel tenants.

Witnesses told police that the fire may have been intentionally set. Through further investigation, authorities identified Negron as the suspect.

Negron, 31, was found later that day at a nearby business.

He was charged with arson (second-degree), causing or risking widespread injury or damage (third-degree) and criminal mischief (third-degree). Negron was placed in the Atlantic County Correctional Facility.
