Person Breaks Into Tiger Enclosure At South Jersey Zoo: Police

The person hopped a fence and 'started enticing' the tiger, said police, who are trying to identify her.

BRIDGETON, NJ — A person illegally entered a tiger enclosure at a South Jersey zoo, authorities said. Police said Tuesday they are looking to identify her.

According to authorities, a woman climbed over the wooden fence of the tiger exhibit at Cohanzick Zoo in Bridgeton. She then began "enticing the tiger," putting her hand through the wire enclosure inside the wooden fence, according to law enforcement.

The unidentified person nearly got bitten, police said.

It wasn't immediately clear when the incident occurred. Bridgeton police shared photos and footage of the incident on their Facebook page.

Climbing over zoo fences is illegal in Bridgeton. A sign outside of the tiger enclosure informs visitors of the city law.

Cohanzick Zoo has two Bengal tigers named Rishi and Mahesha, who both weigh nearly 500 pounds, according to the zoo's website.
