Police Search for Woman Who Forged Checks Off Dead Person's Account

Police allege she cashed a pair of $100 checks off an account belonging to a dead person.

Katelyn Shields, 20, of Westville, is wanted by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office for failure to appear in Superior Court, Woodbury on Aug. 1 for a status conference on forgery charges.

She is 5’5,” 120 pounds, with hazel eyes and brown hair. Her image is attached to this post.

Police allege Shields cashed two $100 checks on an account that belonged to a dead person and had been closed.

On May 16, 2014, Woodbury Police received a complaint that she had given the checks to the unidentified complainant and said they belonged to her aunt, who needed the money right away.

The complainant withdrew $100 from an ATM for Shields and cashed the checks into his account, later learning the checks had been stolen, police said.

Shields was charged on June 7, 2014, following an investigation. She was indicted on two counts of third-degree forgery on Aug. 6, 2014.
