Powers Outages, Schools Close Wednesday After Gloucester County Storms

Thousands of Atlantic City Electric Service outages were reported.

GLOUCESTER COUNTY, NJ — Thousands of people are still without power, and schools in the area are closed after storms battered the region on Tuesday night.

Atlantic City Electric reported 3,624 customers who lack service as of Wednesday morning without an estimated restoration time listed.

The bulk of those in the dark are in the Mantua Township area, where schools in the district are also closed.

Multiple downed trees and power lines have left the roads unsafe to the point where local police told residents to avoid traveling on Tuesday night.

School officials said they will reassess Thursday's schedule as cleanup continues.
