HARRISON TOWNSHIP, NJ – The proposed location for a mixed-use facility within a few miles of Rowan University’s main campus has some Harrison Township residents concerned, minutes from a township meeting show.

A developer originally wanted to build 1,600 homes and develop 1 million square feet of retail and 1 million square feet of office space along U.S. Route 322 near the main campus of Rowan University, nj.com said.

Those plans never came to fruition, according to nj.com.

Now a different developer wants to build a complex containing 50 full-size pitches, eight baseball diamonds as well as an on-site hotel, dining options and entertainment venues, according to the website for Holmes Miller, one of the companies affiliated with the project. The new location is also along U.S. Route 322, but between Harrisonville Road and the southbound lanes of Route 55, nj.com said.

The major concern of residents appears to be parking and traffic. For example, on-site parking would barely accommodate one-third of the 11,551 cars that could arrive during an event, a review of the minutes from the township committee’s March 7 meeting indicated.
