Solution Coming To Years-Long Problem In West Deptford

Funding for the solution comes from federal and local sources, West Deptford's mayor says.

WEST DEPTFORD, NJ — About $1.1 million from the federally-funded American Rescue Plan is being allocated to fix stormwater damage in the Westwood Court development and Sherwood Park sections of West Deptford, Mayor James P. Mehaffey told Patch.

The township will chip in another $300,000 from its Capital Improvement Fund towards fixing the problem, Mehaffey said.

"The damage ... has occurred over 15 to 20 years [and] some of the piping has collapsed," he continued. "Some of the basements over there are pumping a lot, so we have to repair the stormwater pipes."

Mehaffey continued, "our public works foreman, along with our engineers, felt that this was the most the area that needed the most immediate impact."

If any of the roughly $1.4 million allocated to the project remains after fixing the pipes in Westwood Court and Sherwood Park, the township may start a similar project in the Boulevard and Greenfield sections of the township, Mehaffey said.
