TV Viewers In NJ Get Terrifying Message On Screen

A message went out to hundreds of thousands of T.V. viewers this week containing words nobody wants to see. But don't worry. You're safe.

The New Jersey Office of Emergency Management said the alert was a "nuclear power plant warning" for Cumberland and Salem counties. The alert was issued at 8:54 p.m. on Tuesday and was in effect until 9:54 p.m. on Wednesday.

The NJEOM, however, quickly replaced that script with this message:

***FALSE EMERGENCY ALERT*** You may have seen this message on your TV tonight.There is NO emergency. This message went out in error .

The NJEOM said the nuclear power plant warning was created as part of a training exercise.

“The message was intended for a small group of emergency management personnel who were participating in the exercise. As a result of a coding error, the message was publicly broadcast,” according to the NJEOM.

The message went out to TV viewers in Salem County, which is home of the Salem Nuclear Power Plant, and Cumberland County in southern New Jersey.
