The Stranger I Met Today

Trader’s Cove at Penn’s Place is a delightful coffee shop in historic New Castle, Delaware.  I was there with my friend, Kate, to grab a cup of coffee.

“What’s this?” I asked, pointing at a flier on the counter.

“Oh, that’s our live music schedule.  We have music and events in The Muse on Saturday nights.  If you like good music, stop by on Saturday night.  It’s first come, first serve seating,” Esther, the owner of Penn’s Place, told us.  The other owner, Matthew, enthusiastically nodded his head and said, “You guys should check it out.”

So, we decided to visit The Muse @ Penn’s Place the following Saturday night.  The cozy venue seats 24.  Kate and I had warmed Mad Anthony’s Chase Spiced Apple Wine (a delicious spiced wine from the fantastic Auburn Road Winery) and waited for the performance to begin.

Around 6:00 p.m., Noelle Picara took her place behind her red keyboard at the front of the room.  She performed until 8:00 p.m. and even talked with the audience during and after her performance.  She was fantastic.  I hummed ‘Zombie Girl,’ one of Noelle’s songs as I left The Muse that night.  Before I got to the car, I decided two things.  1.  I want to hear what Noelle sounds like with her band.  2.  The Muse has some happening acts.  It was a great night.

Lesson Learned

You don’t have to pay a lot (there was no cover!) or go far to hear experience talented performers and enjoy a lovely venue.  It’s important to support local businesses and artists, so they can continue providing for the community.  If you have the chance, check out everything at Penn’s Place (the coffee shop, the venue, and the artisans shop) and Noelle Picara.  You won’t be disappointed.
