Walmart Evacuated, 19 Taken To Hospital In South Jersey: Report

WOODBURY, NJ — The Walmart at 820 Cooper St. was evacuated on Tuesday after a report of fumes in the building, Deptford Township Police said.

According to ABC, 19 people were taken to the hospital with minor issues after repeatedly coughing due to an irritant that was not categorized as a hazard by emergency responders.

"At one point, one of my sons was feeling dizzy. Two of us felt nauseous. My other son, he had a headache. His tongue was tingling," Jeffrey Jones, who was in the store, said.

The store has been cleared to return to normal operations on Wednesday as officials still work to determine the source of the irritant.

The Deptford Township Fire Department and Gloucester County HazMat team also assisted at the scene.

Patch has reached out to emergency response officials for an update on the irritant and status of the patients, and is yet to hear back.
