West Deptford Girls' Basketball Brings Heavy D Against Kingsway
The Eagles only allowed eight points in the second half in a 35-24 win over the Dragons.

Kingsway came out of the gate strong against the girls’ basketball team Saturday, putting up 14 points in the first quarter, on the strength of sharpshooter Maddie Flynn’s efforts from beyond the arc.
The following three quarters didn’t go so well for the Dragons, as the Eagles shifted strategy on defense, allowing only 10 points the rest of the afternoon on their way to a 35-24 win.
For West Deptford, it was a big win over a team they’ve struggled against the past several years.

“This is like a playoff type of win,” head coach J McKeown said. “Even though their record isn’t great, that’s still a good team.”
The Eagles made a playoff type of adjustment in the game, switching from their usual help defense to stay with and shut down Flynn, who accounted for half of Kingsway’s points on the day.

West Deptford was also able to keep up their usual brand of pressure defense, which resulted in numerous turnovers and plenty of easy points on the other end.
“It was a defensive game today,” senior Tarryn Bundy said. “Once we got our lead, we wanted to shut them down offensively.”
That lead came just after halftime; after trailing by just a point going into the half, West Deptford used an 8-0 run to break things open and force Kingsway out of a zone defense and into man-to-man.
“If we can stay ahead of some of these teams and make them play us man, I don’t think we’re in trouble,” McKeown said
The team was also able to do some of the things they couldn’t get done against Sterling in a loss just a few days ago, especially with Danielle McKeown, Megan Knoblock and Paige Paratore slashing to the basket and either getting easy baskets or drawing foul after foul.
Bundy and Danielle McKeown were the top scores for the Eagles on the afteroon, each scoring 10 points in what was a balanced effort on offense.
