West Deptford Schools Shift Risk Insurance, Look for Savings
A three-year deal with a South Jersey consortium could save the district thousands.

In a move that could save the district thousands of dollars, the West Deptford school board voted Monday night to approve a resolution to shift the district’s risk insurance to a South Jersey consortium.
The board approved the move, which assistant superintendent for business William Thompson could save the district around $70,000, to the New Jersey School Boards Association Insurance Group’s Educational Risk Insurance Consortium-SOUTH (ERIC-SOUTH), a cooperative drawing on schools from Gloucester, Salem and Cumberland counties.
The move takes the district’s risk insurance–property and casualty, worker’s compensation, student accident, errors and omissions and the like–to the Barclay Group, a Riverton-based agency, which will serve as the district's risk manager.

The three-year contract still has to be finalized, which could affect exactly how much money will be saved in the deal.
“It’ll be a big savings,” Thompson said.
