West Deptford Softball Playing for a Cause Against Rivals

The Eagles will raise money for breast cancer research when they take on Haddonfield Wednesday night.

But the Eagles won’t just be taking on their rivals—they’ll also be joining in the fight against breast cancer.

It’s an idea first brought up by Summer Wenzel and Sydney Ponto before the season, and as they said, quickly snowballed into something big.

They’ve sold around 100 T-shirts so far, and donations from pink ribbons, which will decorate the outfield fence, are still rolling in ahead of the game.

And with the disease affecting those close to them—relatives, family friends and on down the line—the players said this is a chance to help out in a direct way.

“It’s a great cause,” Wenzel said. “We just wanted to bring awareness to it.”

First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. at Field 9 in the West Deptford Little League complex.
