West Deptford Softball Team to Play for South Jersey Title

The Eagles squeaked past Cinnaminson in the semifinals of the South Jersey Group 2 playoffs.

West Deptford, NJ -- The top-seeded West Deptford High School softball team put up two runs in the bottom of the seventh-inning to squeak past No. 4 Cinnaminson and into the finals of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 2 playoffs, according to nj.com.

MacKenzie Ponto’s single scored Allison Gallagher, after Gallagher scored Amanda Patch with a single earlier in the inning, to send the Eagles home happy, according to the report.

West Deptford led, 7-2, after four innings, but the Pirates rallied.

Brook Figiel, Olivia Pestridge and Jessica Ferris each hit a homerun for Cinnaminson in a fifth inning that saw the Pirates cut the lead to one run.

The Pirates took the lead in the sixth when was able to score following a bunt thanks to a pair of throwing errors.

West Deptford was set to face No. 2 Sterling on Thursday in the championship game.

West Deptford opened the playoffs with a 15-0 win over No. 16 Collingswood.

It then defeated No. 9 Middle Township, 12-4, in the quarterfinals.
