West Deptford Sports Wrap: Boys' Lacrosse Advances in GC Cup

The boys' track team also got a pair of solid performances at the South Jersey Open.

West Deptford’s boys’ lacrosse team built a 6-2 lead at halftime and weathered a second-half storm to beat Clearview, 11-8, in the opening round of the GC Cup Thursday night, locking in a berth in the finals next week.

Mike Reardon and Zach Kaestner each scored a hat trick for the Eagles, and Ryan Monaghan added a pair of goals, while Nick Reardon, Nick Baud and Marc Laspino scored once each.

Nick Pull heaved the shot 46-8.75 for ninth place, and Evan Stigale ran a 5:00.64 mile to place 19th among freshman at the South Jersey Open at Buena Regional High School Thursday night.

The Eagles fell to Audubon, who got longtime head coach Rich Horan his 400th career win, 7-2, Thursday night. The Eagles managed just six hits all night, and struggled against Audubon’s Andrew Schorr, who struck out eight over five innings.

Softball

The Eagles got behind early to Kingsway and couldn’t find an answer at the plate, as Dragons pitcher Kelsey Dominik fired a complete-game two-hitter, striking out nine in a 9-1 win.

Girls’ lacrosse

Clearview dominated in the opening round of the GC Cup, building an 8-2 halftime lead on the way to a 14-4 win over West Deptford. The Eagles got a hat trick from Paige Paratore, but Rachel Krott’s lone goal was the only other scoring for the team.
