West Deptford Sports Wrap: Track Teams Sweep Quad Meets

The boys and girls were both perfect in crowded conference meets Tuesday.

Nick Pulli, Todd Jarrell and Brandon Holmes were dominant in the throws, as swept a quad meet against Woodbury, Paulsboro and Audubon Tuesday.

Pulli won the discus and shot put outright, with throws of 156-2 in the discus and 51-even in the shot put. Jarrell took the javelin with a throw of 145-4, and was second in the discus and third in the shot. Holmes was third in the javelin and fourth in the shot.

Girls’ track

Freshman Nicole Pinto continued to impress, clocking a 26.9 in the 200, and Megan Kirschling got a chance to race in the 400 hurdles, winning in 1:07.5, as the Eagles swept Woodbury, Audubon and Paulsboro.

Softball

Sydney Ponto put on a show at Sterling, striking out eleven batters in a one-hitter, as the Eagles scored a 3-0 Colonial Conference win.

Baseball

It was another heartbreaker for West Deptford, which mounted a too-little, too-late comeback, falling to Sterling at home, 3-2. Harry Sturgis provided some spark at the plate, smacking a double and driving in a run, but it wasn’t enough, as the Eagles were held to just four hits in the game.

Boys’ lacrosse

St. Augustine proved why they’re ranked tops in South Jersey, dispatching West Deptford, 15-3. The Eagles' goals came from Nick Baud, Ryan Monaghan and Jon Hurlburt.
