White Bridge Slated for Repair

The freeholders approved the bridge over Woodbury Creek as one of six projects to get state funding.

The White Bridge over Woodbury Creek on the West Deptford-National Park border will get some much-needed repairs, after the freeholders approved it Wednesday night as one of six projects slated to get state funding.

The county will use $2,973,000 in anticipated 2011 Transportation Trust Fund for State Aid to Counties to fund repairs to pilings for the bridge, which is part of Grove Avenue, as well as projects in Deptford, Swedesboro, Clayton and Harrison Township, as well as for restriping various roads throughout the county.

“Every improvement we make keeps our roads safe and makes us more attractive to business and industry,” said Freeholder Heather Simmons, who serves as the liaison to county Public Works. During the freeholder meeting, she praised the efforts of various county employees to position Gloucester County to get state and federal funding to keep roads in top shape.

“The infrastructure here is something to be truly proud of,” she said.

A separate federal project will handle resurfacing, repairs and safety improvements to Kings Highway in East Greenwich and Woolwich Township, including work on the steel truss bridge joints on the Mantua Creek bridge at the East Greenwich-West Deptford border.
