Woodbury Mews Renovates Assisted Living and Memory Care
Retirement Community Hosts Open House Sept. 26, 4-7 p.m.

WOODBURY, N.J. – Woodbury Mews, a Watermark Retirement Community along Green Avenue in Woodbury, invites the public to an Open House on Thursday, Sept. 26, 4-7 p.m., to tour recently renovated Memory Care and Assisted Living communities. Woodbury Mews offers Independent, Assisted Living and Memory Care. All residents benefit from Watermark’s Signature Programs, developed to push the boundaries of retirement living and create innovative and extraordinary communities where residents thrive.
“Many of the renovations at Woodbury Mews support the ‘like home’ environments Watermark Retirement Communities strive to create for residents,” said Woodbury Mews Executive Director Annette Simmons. “Our spaces are anything but institutional, and our renovations have further added to our unique blend of elegance and warmth. The renovations also have enabled us to design areas that better support Watermark’s Signature Programs such as Thrive Memory Care with Naya Caregivers and the Pantry Program.”
Unlike traditional memory care models where care is divided between multiple associates, caregivers at Woodbury Mews – called Nayas – spend the entire day with residents and are more likely to notice positive responses to programs and routines, as well as early signs of concern that might otherwise go unnoticed. These caregivers are trained and certified as “Nayas” through a partnership between Watermark and the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners.

“Our renovations have created large, bright spaces for our residents and Nayas to participate side-by-side in the rhythm of day-to-day life, such as preparing and serving home-style meals and other activities that provide purpose and community,” said Simmons. “The Nayas offer just the right amount of support so that each resident takes ownership and pride in completing daily routines and making meaningful contributions to their community.”
The Memory Care renovations also support Woodbury Mews’ execution of Watermark’s Pantry Program, which provides residents with their own personal space to store comfort foods and favorite items. Families and friends also use the pantry spaces to store photographs, books, games and more for fun conversation starters during visits with loved ones.

In addition to tours, the Sept. 26 Open House also will provide guests with opportunities to sample food from another Watermark Signature Program, Gourmet Bites. This innovative dining program takes traditional meals, such as beef stroganoff and chicken piccata, and transforms them into handheld portions that can be eaten easily by individuals with physical, neuromuscular or cognitive challenges who have difficulty using utensils.
Signature Programs that benefit all residents of Woodbury Mews include Watermark University, which presents a range of fitness and educational classes, and Extraordinary Outings, which include excursions, often planned by residents, that challenge traditional assumptions of what is possible for residents living in a retirement community.
