YMCA of Gloucester County’s Bright Beginnings Program Makes Going Back to School Easier

This community outreach program will provide children in need with the new clothes and school supplies needed to start the school year.

[August 8, 2016: Gloucester County, NJ] – Having the right "stuff" to start school means more success with learning. The YMCA of Gloucester County's Bright Beginnings Program is a community outreach program that provides children in need with the new clothes and school supplies needed to start the school year with confidence and excitement.

The YMCA of Gloucester County has organized volunteers to shop with children in need during a planned shopping day on Saturday, August 27 at Walmart on Clements Bridge Road in Deptford. The day starts off with a healthy breakfast for the children and their volunteers following a fun bus ride of singing and cheering – then it’s time to shop for shirts, pants, shoes, socks and a coat. At the end of the day, each child receives a backpack filled with school supplies.

“Last year, the Bright Beginnings Program brought such joy to my life. When times were tough the YMCA of Gloucester County’s Bright Beginnings Program provided my daughter with a brand new outfit, school supplies, a book bag and so much more. This year, I’m excited to volunteer for the Bright Beginnings Program where I can help assist in a program that brought such joy to my family,” said a mother of a school-aged child.

The YMCA of Gloucester County is seeking volunteers, sponsors and generous donations from caring individuals to help make the children in our community have a brighter school year. YMCA of Gloucester County is determined to provide shopping trips to 80 children in the Gloucester County area. The program relies on donations from local businesses & members of the community. Any donations are greatly appreciated. Donations will be accepted now through Saturday, August 13.

If you are interested in volunteering or making a donation, please contact Kathy Rhead-Narvaez by phone 856.845.0720 or by email KRhead@ymcagloco.org.
