100 Years Later Westfield Honors Its Fallen Soldiers

The "Gold Star" streets were created to honor 18 Westfield residents who died during World War I.

STFIELD, NJ — As Memorial Day ceremonies took place across Westfield on Monday, the Town of Westfield Police Department highlighted another lasting tribute woven throughout the community itself: the town’s “Gold Star Streets.”

According to the police department, the streets were established to honor 18 Westfield residents — known as the “Supreme Honor Men” — who lost their lives during World War I.

More than a century later, streets across town still carry their names.
