WESTFIELD, NJ — Not one, but two new bagel shops are rising in Westfield.

PopUp Bagels

PopUp Bagels will be opening its first New Jersey location at 220 South Ave W in Westfield, at the former Westfield Seafood location.

The brand, which originated in Connecticut in 2021, grew from a backyard operation into a chain with locations in several states.

PopUp Bagels focuses on high-traffic, energetic urban and suburban communities for its retail spaces. Each shop typically spans 1,100 square feet and is designed to accommodate walk-ins, advance orders and catering services.

The company serves bagels hot, whole, and directly from the oven without pre-slicing or sandwich prep. Instead, customers are encouraged to grip, rip and dip their bagels.

Each shop maintains a consistent menu featuring weekly "schmear" flavors.

Bagel Cafe NJ

Bagel Cafe NJ is also planning on opening on North Avenue E in Westfield, across from Walgreens in the former Supercuts space.

This will be Bagel Cafe NJ's third location. It has two other locations in downtown New Providence and Fanwood.

"We are an elevated hand-rolled bagel and coffee shop. All bagels are hand-rolled, water-boiled, and baked on premises," according to Bagel Cafe NJ. "We work closely with a local roaster for our craft coffee offerings and bring in small batch pastries daily from Brooklyn."

The cafe's lunch menu features unique signature sandwiches served on bread made from their old-world bagel recipe.

The target opening date is June 1.
