2 Westfield Police Officers Promoted

Westfield Police Chief Christopher Battiloro announced the promotions of Nicholas Bruno to the rank of Lieutenant and Jaramillo to Sergeant.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Two Westfield Police Officers were recently promoted, announced Westfield Police Chief Christopher Battiloro.

Sergeant Nicholas Bruno was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and Plainclothes Officer Andres Jaramillo to the rank of Sergeant, both effective May 1.

Bruno, 38, was appointed to the Westfield Police Department as a Police Officer on January 10, 2010, and attended the 101st Basic Course for Police Officers at John H. Stamler Police Academy of Union County. He was designated as a Plainclothes Officer and assigned to the Detective Bureau on July 1, 2016, awarded the prestigious designation as Detective on Nov. 1, 2017, and promoted to Sergeant on July 22, 2019.

Bruno attended West Virginia University from 2004 to 2005 prior to enlisting in the United States Navy in 2005. He attained the rank of E-4/Hospital Corpsman, Third Class (HM3) and was assigned to the Fleet Marine Force (FMF) of the United States Marine Corps, serving a tour of duty in Fallujah, Iraq, from 2006 to 2007 in support of the Global War on Terror.

Bruno is the recipient of five Westfield Police Department Life Saving Medals, two Medals of Merit, a Command Citation, two Unit Citations, the Hurricane Sandy and COVID-19 Exceptional Service Awards, and a Certificate of Merit. He will serve as a Watch Commander in the Patrol Services Bureau.

Jaramillo, 36, was appointed to the Westfield Police Department as a Police Officer on July 17, 2015, and attended the 113th Basic Course for Police Officers at John H. Stamler Police Academy of Union County. He was designated as a Plainclothes Officer and assigned to the Detective Bureau on Jan. 1, 2024.

Jaramillo is a 2020 cum laude graduate of Kean University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice. He served as a Field Training Officer for this agency and currently serves as a Physical Training Instructor for police officer recruits attending the John H. Stamler Police Academy of Union County.

Jaramillo is a certified Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Pilot, and may fly drones in accordance with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Small UAS Rule Part 107. He currently serves as a UAS pilot for both this agency and the Union County SWAT Team.

Jaramillo is the recipient of a Westfield Police Department Command Citation, a Unit Citation, and the COVID-19 Exceptional Service Award. He will serve as a field supervisor in the Patrol Services Bureau.
