23-Year-Old Fatally Shot In Union County

Union County officials are asking for tips as investigators continue working to determine what led to a deadly shooting on Caldwell Place.

ELIZABETH, NJ — A 23-year-old man was fatally shot in Elizabeth, and investigators are asking the public for help as they work to piece together what happened, said the Union County Prosecutor’s Office.

In the early morning of Saturday, officers went to Caldwell Place, where they found a man who had been shot.

The victim was identified as Franklin Mendez, 23, of Elizabeth. He was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

Investigators have not released additional details about what may have led up to the shooting.
