3 Workers Injured In Minor Explosion At Union County Utilities Authority

The explosion happened on Thursday morning during routine maintenance at the facility in Rahway.

RAHWAY, NJ — Three people were injured following a minor explosion at the Union County Utilities Authority on Thursday.

The explosion was reported on Thursday morning during routine maintenance at the facility in Rahway leading to a small-scale industrial accident, said Union County Spokeswoman Kelly Martins.

Three people had minor injuries, were treated by EMTs on-site, and declined hospital care but will visit the medical facility for evaluation, said Martins.

The workers were not Union County employees. The facility at 1499 Routes 1 & 9 North in Rahway is operated by Reworld Waste.

The three people were employees of Reworld and North American Explosive.

Full operations have since resumed at the facility.
