61-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed Crossing Route 22 In Union County, Police Say

The woman was struck by a vehicle while crossing the highway in Union on Friday evening, police said.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — A 61-year-old pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Route 22 in Union on Friday evening, police said.

Authorities said the incident happened around 6:57 p.m. near Ball Avenue, when the woman was crossing the eastbound lanes of Route 22 toward the center median.

Police said she was hit by a vehicle during the crossing.

Emergency responders pronounced the woman dead at the scene, according to officials. She was a Newark resident. Her identity has not been released publicly.

Authorities said the driver stopped at the scene and spoke with police. No charges have been filed at this time.
