WESTFIELD, NJ — Stolen car, car burglary, fraud, suspicious person were all reported recently in Westfield.
Westfield Police Blotter – April 12 to 18:
On April 13 at 3:50 p.m.: A resident of the 700 block of Radley Road reported multiple unauthorized purchases on credit cards. The resident reported seeing these purchases this month. The resident is at a loss of around $6,000.
On April 13 at 5:04 p.m.: Officers responded to the 300 block of Clark Street on a report of theft from a construction site. A representative of a contracting company reported that scaffolding was removed from the site by multiple individuals during evening hours on a prior date. The stolen materials were valued at around $15,000.
On April 14 at 1:54 a.m.: A resident of the 300 block of Roger Avenue reported that an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway was entered overnight by an unknown actor. Surveillance footage captured a masked person rummaging through the vehicle; however, no items were reported missing. A second vehicle at the location was also targeted, but entry was unsuccessful as it was secured.
On April 14 at 7:27 a.m.: A resident of the 100 block of Boynton Court reported that their vehicle was stolen overnight from their driveway. The resident stated they left the vehicle in their driveway overnight with the keys inside and woke up this morning to the vehicle missing. The vehicle is described as a 2021 Mazda CX5 with a monetary value of around $25,000.
On April 14 at 12:27 p.m.: Rockeenah Metteaux, 26, Trenton, was arrested for two no-bail NCIC warrants out of Essex County following a motor vehicle stop at Central Avenue and Cacciola Place, after a License Plate Reader hit for a wanted person. Metteaux also had an active ACS warrant out of Irvington.
On April 14 at 5:11 p.m.: Officer Buccino documented a report of identity theft. The 700 block of Oak Ave. resident stated they were notified earlier in the day of a fraudulent account being created using their personal identifying information. The resident reported that an unknown suspect, possibly out of New York City, tried to make a purchase and open an account using their credentials. No financial loss was reported at this time.
On April 15 at 2:22 p.m.: A family returned home when a neighbor told them that he had seen an unknown Hispanic man wearing a light gray zip-up sweatshirt, jeans, and carrying a black clipboard fleeing the north side of their property earlier that day. A check of the home's surveillance cameras showed that the suspect fled in a white GMC Sierra. Surveillance cameras also showed the suspect trying to open the front door as well, before circling the entire home. The resident was able to assess the premises shortly after this incident and did not see any damage to either of the doors or any of the windows in his home.
