Deadline Approaching For Voter Registration In Union County

UNION COUNTY, NJ — Union County residents who want to vote in next month’s Primary Election are running out of time to register.

The Union County Board of Elections is reminding voters that Tuesday, May 12 is the deadline to register for the June 2 primary election.

“There are multiple options for residents to register to vote in time for the upcoming election,” Union County Board of Elections Administrator Nicole DiRado said. “Those eligible to vote can apply online, by mail or in person in order to register.”

Election officials said residents can register online, through the mail or in person at the Board of Elections office or their local municipal clerk’s office.

The Board of Elections office is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will stay open until 9 p.m. on May 12 for last-minute registrations.

Under a newer state law, 17-year-olds who will turn 18 by the General Election are now eligible to register and vote in the Primary Election.

To qualify, residents must be U.S. citizens, live in New Jersey and Union County for at least 30 days before the election, and be at least 18 years old by Election Day. Officials also noted that residents on parole or probation remain eligible to vote.

Voter registration forms are available in English and Spanish through the county’s website, according to election officials.
