WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield will mark Memorial Day on Monday with a full day of services, a parade, and community gatherings honoring those who died in military service.

The day begins at 10 a.m. with a wreath-laying ceremony at Memorial Plaza. From there, a parade steps off at 10:45 a.m., traveling down East Broad Street, turning onto North Euclid Avenue, and finishing in Mindowaskin Park.

If you’re planning to attend, participants will line up starting at 9:15 a.m. on North Avenue near Memorial Plaza.

After the parade wraps up, a Memorial Day service will take place at Fairview Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. (1100 East Broad Street).

There will also be time for residents to gather in Mindowaskin Park from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for food and entertainment. Later in the day, a picnic with live music is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the American Legion Hall at 1003 North Avenue.

This year’s Grand Marshal is Bob D’Arecca, a Korean War veteran and longtime Westfield resident. D’Arecca is a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Knights of Columbus, and previously served as a volunteer dispatcher with the Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad for 20 years. He also spent years officiating youth and recreational sports in town.

Berman also thanked members of the American Legion, along with community volunteers Joe Mindak and Keith Gibbons, for their work organizing the annual event.

Officials said the town is monitoring the weather and will share updates if anything changes through Nixle alerts, social media, and the town website.

All municipal offices in Westfield will be closed on Monday in observance of Memorial Day.
