1. Applications Due Soon: Don't Miss Westfield Youth Police Academy This Summer (patch.com) — Westfield families still have a few days to sign up students for the 2026 Westfield Police Youth Academy, a week-long summer program running July 13–17. Participants will experience drill instruction, fitness training, and hands-on lessons in law, investigations, and first aid while working closely with Westfield officers and regional public safety professionals. Applications and details are available on the police department’s Youth Academy page.
2. Why Are Westfield Residents Bringing Their Car Keys To Bed? (patch.com) — Westfield residents are changing nightly routines, even bringing car keys to their bedrooms, as concerns about auto thefts and repeat juvenile offenders grow. At a town hall at the Westfield Italian American Club, Councilman Mike Armento and State Sen. John Bramnick discussed residents’ fears, debated tougher penalties for vehicle theft, and highlighted ongoing disagreements in Trenton over punishment versus rehabilitation for young offenders.
3. Free Ice Cream Could Be Waiting For Safe Cyclists In Westfield (patch.com) — Westfield police are teaming up with Westfield Gas + Electric/Whip City Fiber to reward kids and adults spotted biking, scootering, or skateboarding safely with coupons for free ice cream at three local shops. If you’re wearing a helmet and following the rules this summer, an officer might hand you a cone voucher at Mrs. C's Soft Serve, Mr. Whipy's, or Northside Creamery.
4. Cohen shines as No. 6 Westfield routs Montclair in North 4 quarterfinals (nj.com subscription) — Westfield’s girls lacrosse team, ranked No. 6 statewide, dominated Montclair 18-4 at home behind a nine-point performance from Gillian Cohen. The Blue Devils now advance to Thursday’s North 4 semifinal against Ridgewood, a high-stakes rematch of last year’s sectional final and this season’s dramatic overtime upset.
