The Temple Sholom and local community are invited to join in a special Shabbat of Celebration honoring the 18th ordination anniversaries of Rabbi Emily Losben-Ostrov and Cantor Sharlein, both ordained in May 2008.
In Jewish tradition, the number 18 — chai — carries profound significance, representing life, blessing, and good fortune. Reaching this milestone together makes the occasion doubly meaningful, and the congregation is planning two festive events to mark it in style.
The celebration begins Friday evening with a special Kabbalat Shabbat service, complete with blessings and a festive oneg. The community will gather to welcome the Sabbath and raise a toast — l'chayim — to our clergy's remarkable journey.
On Saturday afternoon, the celebration continues with a playful nod to the milestone number: a "Chai" Tea, featuring afternoon tea, delicate sweets, and joyful Shabbat learning. The theme is as fitting as it is delightful — chai, after all, means both the number 18 and the Hebrew word for life.
Whether or not you are able to attend, the congregation warmly invites you to leave a congratulatory message for Rabbi Emily and Cantor Sharlein. All tributes will be compiled into a special commemorative booklet presented to each of them.
To RSVP, leave a tribute, or make a donation in their honor, visit the event page here.
The congregation looks forward to a wonderful Shabbat celebrating two wonderful people. All are welcome. Temple Sholom 1925 Lake Avenue, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076 https://www.sholomnj.org/
