WESTFIELD, NJ — A Newark man was arrested in Westfield after police say toxic chemicals were found during a search of a vehicle following a suspicious activity report.
The incident happened June 15 near the intersection of First Street and Westfield Avenue, according to police.
Officers responded to the area after a report of a suspicious vehicle. During the encounter, police arrested 24-year-old Kazir Stokes of Newark after what they described as the discovery of toxic chemicals connected to the situation.
Stokes was taken to Westfield Police Headquarters for processing and later issued a summons to appear in municipal court.
Police said he was also found to have an outstanding warrant from Union Township Municipal Court during processing. He was also given a separate court date for that matter.
He was later released following processing.
No additional details were provided about the type of chemicals or how they were being transported.
