Westfield Resident Tricked By Email, Loses 54K Airline Miles, Police Say

A message that appeared legitimate led to an unexpected loss, police said.

WESTFIELD, NJ — A Westfield resident reported losing 54,000 credit card reward miles after responding to an email that appeared to come from a friend, according to police.

The resident told police the email looked legitimate and appeared to have been sent by someone they knew.

Police said the resident's account was later compromised, resulting in the loss of the reward miles.

The incident was reported on June 25. No additional information about the case or any potential suspects was released.
