WESTFIELD, NJ — Hundreds of resident comments on the future of Tamaques Park are now being reviewed as the project moves into its next phase of planning, town officials said.
The feedback was gathered through earlier public meetings and surveys and is now being analyzed by the town’s project consultant as officials work toward refining potential design ideas for the popular park.
During remarks at the June 23 Town Council meeting, Mayor Jeremy Berman said the community response is actively shaping the next steps of the process.
“Regarding Tamaques, we appreciate everyone who provided input on the proposed Tamaques Park design plan,” Berman said.
According to the town, its project partner Dresdner Robin is currently reviewing the public input and organizing it into a comprehensive report that will highlight key themes and priorities raised by residents.
Berman said that report will be presented to the project steering committee in the fall, where officials will evaluate what residents identified as the most important elements of the park’s future.
“It will identify the areas of greatest interest from our residents,” Berman said, referring to the upcoming findings.
The planning process follows earlier discussions this spring, when consultants presented a broader concept for Tamaques Park that included possible additions such as expanded walking trails, pickleball courts, a community center, and other improvements aimed at increasing accessibility and usage of the park.
Officials said no final design has been approved, and that the current phase is focused on refining earlier ideas based directly on public input rather than introducing new concepts.
After the steering committee review, Dresdner Robin is expected to present final design recommendations at future public meetings, including sessions before the Recreation Commission and the Town Council. Those meetings will give residents another opportunity to review proposals and provide input before decisions are made on funding and timelines.
If the process stays on schedule, construction could begin in the coming years. Berman noted the town is currently working “in anticipation of work getting underway in 2027.”
Further updates are expected once the consultant report is completed and reviewed later this year.
