Westfield Storm Update: Areas Still Affected, Roads Closed, What You Should Know

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield officials say storm recovery efforts are continuing across town following recent severe weather, with more than 1,500 PSE&G customers affected by power outages and several roads closed due to downed trees and wires.

According to updates from the town and utility officials, outages are affecting parts of Westfield, including downtown areas. The Westfield Memorial Library, the Westfield Area YMCA, and both major grocery stores in downtown Westfield were impacted on Monday. The library and Trader Joe’s were closed, while the YMCA’s main facility on Clark Street and its Early Learning Child Care Center on Elm Street were also closed. Stop & Shop on Elm Street remained open but reported impacts to its refrigeration systems.

Officials said much of downtown Westfield continued to have power despite surrounding outages. Residents can view current outages through the PSE&G outage map.

Town officials also provided an updated list of road closures caused by downed trees and wires. The following roads remain closed or partially closed:

• Wychwood Road near Bennett Place
• East Broad Street near Woodland Avenue
• Springfield Avenue (northbound lane near East Broad Street)
• North Chestnut Street near Kimball Avenue
• Mountain Avenue near Walnut Avenue
• Kimball Avenue near Topping Hill Road
• Elm Street near Newton Place
• Birch Avenue near Standish Avenue
• Prospect Street near Madison Avenue
• Orchard Street between Elm Street and Lawrence Avenue
• Coleman Place near Eaglecroft Road
• Florida Street near Wyoming Street
• Carleton Road (900 block)
• Lamberts Mill Road near Austin Street
• Dorian Road near Hazel Avenue
• Radley Road near Shackamaxon Drive
• Tice Place (portion of the 900 block)

Public Works crews are continuing debris removal, and officials said work is being coordinated with utility companies to ensure areas are safe before cleanup begins near downed wires.

Residents are being asked to report storm-related issues through designated channels. Tree limbs on town property can be reported through the Westfield Connect app. Downed trees should be reported to Westfield Police at 908-789-4000, and downed power lines should be reported by calling 911. Power outages should be reported directly to PSE&G at 800-436-7734 or by texting OUT to 4PSEG.

Officials also noted that additional storms remain possible, and residents are being advised to secure outdoor items and use caution while traveling.

Town officials thanked residents for their patience as crews continue working to restore services and reopen affected areas.
