WESTFIELD, NJ — A new restaurant inspired by family recipes and Vietnamese heritage is coming to downtown Westfield.
Vina, which will open on Quimby Street from the team behind Kirshenbaum Baking Co., draws its inspiration from Chef Uyen's childhood and the recipes that connected her to her family's traditions.
Owner Jeff Kirshenbaum said opening the restaurant in Westfield was an easy decision because of the role the community has played in the family's businesses.
“We found home in Westfield, in every sense of the word; and as we grow our business, our town remains the heart and catalyst of it all,” Kirshenbaum said. “So when we were brainstorming about a new Vietnamese restaurant, we knew Westfield would be the perfect place to launch our new concept.”
For Chef Uyen, the restaurant is also a tribute to the food and traditions she grew up with.
“Uyen grew up immersed in Vietnamese culture without quite realizing it,” Kirshenbaum said. “It was only later, after leaving home, that she understood just how much history, flavor, and her mother’s remarkable cooking, had shaped her world. Vina is her homage to it all.”
Rather than reinventing traditional dishes, the restaurant will focus on recipes and techniques that have been passed down through generations.
“At its core, Vina is about authenticity, not reinventing dishes or reimagining classics,” Kirshenbaum said. “We are celebrating the true flavors, techniques and traditions of Vietnamese culture.”
Kirshenbaum said guests can also expect the same hospitality that customers have come to know at Kirshenbaum Baking Co., alongside a menu centered on authentic Vietnamese flavors.
“We believe that elevated experiences at any type of restaurant, whether fine dining or quick service casual, are tied not only to excellent food but exceptional hospitality,” he said.
One menu item already holds special meaning for the team.
“We’re excited for everyone to try Mom’s egg rolls,” Kirshenbaum said.
Vina will join a growing mix of restaurants in downtown Westfield, something Kirshenbaum believes continues to draw both residents and visitors to the area.
“The vibrant mix of food businesses mirrors the diversity of locals and visitors who frequent downtown Westfield,” he said. “Together, along with Vina, they create an energy that brings curious diners into town.”
Vina is expected to open soon, but a date has not been announced.
