Based on preliminary investigation, Robert M. Nisbett, a 35-year-old man from Newark, was driving a Mercedes-Benz passenger vehicle south on the Garden State Parkway, said NJSP Trooper Christopher Postorino to Patch.

Nisbett lost control of the car, hit the left guardrail, crossed over into the northbound lanes and hit a Nissan passenger vehicle and a Kia SUV that were driving north on the Garden State Parkway, said Postorino.

The Kia then reportedly hit a Honda SUV.

During the crash, Nisbett was ejected from the car and was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, said Postorino.

The driver of the Kia, the driver and two passengers of the Nissan all sustained minor injuries and were taken to an area hospital.

The driver of the Honda also sustained minor injuries.

There were no other injuries reported on scene.

The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information is available.
