LINDEN, NJ — A man was stabbed multiple times in a "random attack" inside a Union County park on Wednesday.
At around 1:36 p.m., the Union County Police Department was called to Wheeler Park for a report of an aggravated assault.
Linden Police found a man near Aviation Plaza on Route 1&9 and Stiles Street, who indicated that he stabbed another man in Wheeler Park, said Union County officials.
A 40-year-old man was found suffering from multiple stab wounds in the park, near Stiles Street and Route 1 & 9, said officials.
The victim was conscious and alert and taken to University Hospital-Newark, where he remains in stable condition.
Mark Minotti, age 27, was arrested, taken to the Union County Police Department, interviewed, and processed.
Minotti was charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault, aggravated assault with weapon, third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose (knife), fourth-degree unlawful possession of a "other" weapon.
He has been taken to Trinitas Hospital in Elizabeth.
"Based on the investigation, this is believed to be a random attack by a single actor," said officials. "There is no continuing safety threat to Wheeler Park or the surrounding area."
