WESTFIELD, NJ — Scammers impersonating police, jewelry theft, driving while intoxicated arrests and more were reported recently in Westfield.
Westfield Police Blotter – Aug. 23 to Aug. 29:
On Aug. 23 at 2:02 a.m.: Alshon Carter, 23, of Irvington, was arrested for driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop at Central Avenue and E. South Avenue. During the course of the investigation, Carter was additionally charged with manufacturing, distributing, or dispensing a controlled dangerous substance. Carter was issued a Union County Superior Court summons and released pending a future court appearance.
On Aug. 25 at 2:22 p.m.: An individual reported their cell phone was possibly taken while at a store on the 0-100 block of Elm Street. The individual stated they placed the phone down when paying for an item. The individual confirmed they left the store and, upon return, could not locate it. Store employees stated they did not see the cell phone.
On Aug. 25 at 11:16 p.m.: Zyaire Boone, 29, of Plainfield, was arrested pursuant to a motor vehicle stop in the area of West South Avenue and Downer Street. Boone was found to have an active ATS warrant issued by the Roselle Municipal Court for $250. Boone was released roadside on his own recognizance with a future pending court date.
On Aug. 27 at 1:46 p.m.: Isaiah Byrd, 31, of Plainfield, was placed under arrest in the area of East Broad Street and Prospect Street under the strength of an active NCIC warrant issued by the Monmouth County Sheriff's Department. He was taken to Westfield Police Headquarters, processed, and held pending transfer to the respective agency.
On Aug. 27 at 2:15 p.m.: Officers took Frankie Correa, 48, of Newark, from the Essex County Jail to Westfield Police Headquarters on an outstanding Westfield Municipal Court warrant. Correa was processed and subsequently released after posting the required bail. He was provided with new court dates for his outstanding warrants.
On Aug. 27 at 3:49 p.m.: A victim in the 400 block of Central Avenue reported being contacted by a person impersonating a Westfield Police Sergeant, who falsely claimed she had active warrants and demanded $13,000 in Bitcoin to avoid arrest. The victim subsequently transferred the funds through a Bitcoin kiosk. Officers advised her to contact her bank regarding the transaction.
On Aug. 28 at 3:56 p.m.: A victim in the 400 block of Park Street reported fraudulent credit card charges for two iPhones purchased through T-Mobile. The charges were disputed with her bank and she did not suffer any monetary loss.
On Aug. 29 at 12:55 a.m.: During a motor vehicle stop in the 1000 block of Echo Lane, Junior Manasse, 33, of Westfield was placed under arrest for an outstanding ATS warrant issued by the Newark Municipal Court for $200. He was subsequently released on his own recognizance on scene.
On Aug. 29 at 3 p.m.: A resident in the 600 block of First Street reported numerous articles of jewelry missing from inside their home. These items are valued at around $82,200.
On Aug. 29 at 10:51 p.m.: Ninicka Williams, 51, of North Plainfield, was arrested pursuant to a DWI investigation during a motor vehicle stop at the intersection of Central Avenue and Sussex Street. Williams was taken to Westfield Police Headquarters, where she was processed and released after being issued multiple motor vehicle summonses.
