WESTFIELD, NJ — Two Westfield High School 12th graders have been named 2027 National Merit Semifinalists, putting them among a national group of high-achieving seniors recognized through the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Emma Simpson and Alexander Stepanov were identified as semifinalists.
They are part of a nationwide pool of about 6,700 semifinalists who represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors.
The students now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships that will be offered next spring.
Westfield High School also announced that 22 students were recognized as Commended Students in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program for exceptional academic promise.
Those students are Anne C. Broaddus, Catherine Christian, Liya A. Colon, Nathan J. DeBole, Reean Dias, Matthew Hanlon, Cameron Hilliard, Alex Hu, Sonia Jansveld, Max Laskow, Hannah Lee, Justin J. Lee, Juliette Lerner, Matthew Logozzo, Cooper Panaro, Lauren R. Roszak, Madeline A. Schlitzer, Roshan Talati, Henry Weinstein, Vivien Xu, Leah A. Zaytman and Benjamin Zhou.
