ELIZABETH, NJ — A man is hospitalized after reportedly shooting himself in the leg on Sunday.
At around 1 a.m., Elizabeth Police were called to a noise complaint and found a large crowd outside on North Broad Street, said Elizabeth Spokeswoman Ruby Contreras.
While trying to break up the crowd, a fight began, and officers reportedly heard two shots fired.
Officers ran toward the crowd and found one male victim with a gunshot wound to his thigh, along with the weapon beside him, said Contreras.
The man was taken to University Hospital, where he remains in stable condition. He reportedly refused to provide any information to officers at the hospital.
A review of video footage reportedly showed the victim holding a gun in his hand when a shot was fired.
"With no other victims or witnesses, at this time it appears to have been a self-inflicted gunshot wound," said Contreras.
